DUSHANBE, November 9, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Nearly 300 old private houses will be demolished in the center of Dushanbe as part of the municipal redevelopment plan that includes the construction of modern buildings, Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office said.

According to him, 231 old houses to be demolished at the Takhmos Street in preparation for reconstruction of the Dushanbe hippodrome and construction of Navrouzgoh (the place for celebrating the Navrouz festival).

Besides, 50 old houses will be demolished at the Hisorak Street as part of the project for construction of new buildings for Tajik National University and dozen of old houses will be demolished at the Panjroud Street in preparation for construction of a lyceum for gifted children.

Owners of these houses will be provided with apartments at the expense of the municipal government or will be given compensation, the spokesman said.
