Date:

DUSHANBE, February 1, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Italian authorities have refuted information about detention of the 35-year-old Ruslan Umarov, the brother of the Chechen separatist leader Doku Umarov, at the railroad station in Mestre, Russia’s news agency, RIA Novosti, reported on February 1.

According to RIA Novosti, the source at the Gorizia prefecture says the man detained at the railroad station in Mestre and currently held in the center for illegal immigrants at the town of Gradisca d”Isonzo in Italy”s northeastern Gorizia province is not Doku Umarov’s brother but just shares the same first and last names.

The detainee proved to be Tajik national and under the Italian legislation he will be deported to Tajikistan in the near future, RIA Novosti said.
