DUSHANBE, February 1, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has received Farit Mukhametshin, the head of Russia’s Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), today.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with President Rahmon, Mukhametshin said that a government-to-government agreement between Russia and Tajikistan on opening of information and culture centers in the capital cities of the two nations would be signed in Dushanbe today.

According to him, the centers are dedicated to promote further expansion between the two countries in education, culture, science, use of innovative technologies and study of the Russian language.

Besides, the centers will also provide assistance with training of young Tajiks for entering higher educational institutions in Russia, the Rossotrudnichestvo head noted.

According to him, they also discussed the problem of the study of the Russian language at Tajik-language schools of the country.  “Russia is ready to help provide these schools with textbooks and train Russian language teachers for these schools,” Mukhametshin said, noting that the Russia side is also ready to provide assistance with organization of vocational courses for labor migrants at Tajik vocational and technical schools.

The Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation, commonly known as Rossotrudnichestvo, is an autonomous Russian federal government agency under the jurisdiction of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  The agency was set up by president’s decree of on September 6, 2008.  The agency was established with the aim of maintaining Russia”s influence in the Commonwealth of Independent States, and to foster friendly ties for the advancement of Russia”s political and economic interests in foreign states.
