DUSHANBE, January 6, 2012, Asia-Plus  — One person has been killed in an avalanche in eastern Tajikistan.

The Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) says Zikrullo Nabotzoda, 17, was killed when an avalanche struck the Chapdra area in the Rasht district Wednesday (January 4) afternoon.

The victim was dug out by search-and-rescue crew and handed over to his family, the source said.

We will recall that weather forecasters warned of further avalanches and drifting in mountain areas on January 4-6.  Drivers were advised to refrain from unnecessary travels to mountain areas.
