KHUJAND, January 8, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Two suicides were registered in Sughd province on Thursday, January 5, the Sughd police directorate reports.

In the Asht district, the 43-year-old man killed himself by hanging.

In the Shahriston district, the eleventh-grade student committed suicide the same way.

235 suicides and 66 suicide attempts were reported in the province in 2011.  Men committed suicide in 101 cases and women committed suicide in 124 cases.

It is to be noted that the authorities in Sughd province set up a special group to try to stem an increase in the number of suicides in the area.   Officials blame economic and family problems.
