DUSHANBE, February 16, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Tajik Ambassador to Ukraine Shuhrat Sultonov met with Anatoly Kolesnik, Head of the State Avitation Administration of Ukraine, in Kyiv on February 15 to discuss cooperation issues, Tajik Embassy in Kyiv said.

The State Aviation Administration is an agency of the Ukrainian government under the Ministry of Transport and Communications responsible for implementing policies on civil aviation to assure safe, economic and efficient air travel.

In the course of the talks, Tajik diplomat reportedly noted that the issue of restoration of air communication between Dushanbe and Kyiv was discussed during Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s official visit to Ukraine in December 2011.

Sultonov said that Tajik air company, Somon Air, planned to launch an air route from Dushanbe to Kyiv via Simferopol (Ukraine) beginning on March 25, 2012.  He asked to provide assistance with resolving a number of issues, on which the launch of the air route from Dushanbe to Kyiv depends.

Representatives from Somon Air have confirmed the information.  They just said the first flight is expected to be operated on March 29.

Somon Air is an airline based in Dushanbe.  It is Tajikistan”s first private airline.  Somon Air is also the first airline in Tajikistan to launch an online booking system. The airline uses the Boeing 737 in its fleet.

Somon Air now operates to the following destinations: China (Urumqi); Germany (Frankfurt am Main); Kazakhstan (Almaty); Russia (Irkuts, Khanty-Mansisysk, Kazan, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, Orenburg, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Nizhnevartovsk, Novosibirsk, Tuymen and Yekaterinburg); Saudi Arabia (Jeddah); Tajikistan (Khujand); Turkey (Istanbul); Ukraine (Simferopol); and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
