QURGHON TEPPA, March 28, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Investigator from the southern Khatlon province has got a long jail term for bribery.

The Khatlon regional court sentenced Amriddin Sharipov, an investigator with the Khatlon police directorate to seven years in prison on March 27.  The sentence followed his conviction on charges bribery (Article 319 (4) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).  Sharipov will serve his term in a high-security penal colony.

Sharipov’s defense lawyer, Ghulom Boboyev, says the court also ruled that Sharipov be barred “from participation in certain activities for five years.”  Under the court’s ruling, Sharipov’s property will be confiscated.

Amriddin Sharipov was caught by officers from the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption last autumn red-handed while taking a bribe of 7,000 U.S. dollars.
