DUSHANBE, June 19, 2012, Asia-Plus — A two-day regional workshop for chiefs and instructors of training institutions from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Latvia, organized by the EU-UNDP Border Management in Central Asia (BOMCA) program, started in Dushanbe today, UNDP Country Office in Tajikistan reports.
Regional workshop of the Forum of Border guards training institutions from Central Asia meets for the third time to exchange experience in innovations in professional education and training. Andris Āboliņš, Deputy Chief of the Latvian State Border Guards’ College shared with other participants the European experience in training of border guards.
The workshop participants will present their national training systems of border staff and will discuss future cooperation with OSCE Border Management Staff College in Dushanbe and Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) Institute based in Switzerland. DCAF Institute proposes to introduce an international training course “Master class in border guarding”, which will be presented to the participants.
They also will visit the Higher Military Border Institute and OSCE Border Management Staff College in Dushanbe to learn their best practices.
The overall objectives of BOMCA are to help increase security in the Central Asian region, to contribute toward the facilitation of legitimate trade and transit, and to reduce the illicit movement of goods and people.
The EU-UNDP BOMCA assistance program is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP with ICMPD as an implementing partner.
