DUSHANBE, July 2, 2012 Asia-Plus – An air route from Dushanbe to Delhi, India that was supposed to be re-launched by Tajik air carrier, Tajik Air, on June 29 has been postponed because of low passenger traffic, an official source at Tajik Air told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon.
According to him, the flight is postponed until next week. The source denied the report that the flight was postponed allegedly because of Tajik Air’s US$ million debt to the New Delhi airport as absolutely baseless. “Tajik Air does not have any debt to be repaid to the New Delhi Airport,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Tajik Air press center reports the flight from Dushanbe to New Delhi will be operated once a week — on Fridays. The company will use Boeing 737 to operate this flight and a ticket for the flight costs 240 euros.
Tajik Air (Tajikistan Airlines) is the national airline of Tajikistan. The airline has its main hub at the Dushanbe airport, and it retains a secondary focus point at the Khujand airport.
The company started operations on September 3, 1924 as Tajik Aviation. Its first route was Bukhara to Dushanbe, served by Junkers F-13 aircraft. It is the sixth oldest airline still in operation.
Tajik Air now serves the following destinations: China (Urumqi); Iran (Tehran, Mashhad); Kazakhstan (Almaty); Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek); Russia (Irkutsk, Moscow, Novosibirsk, St Petersburg, Samara, Sochi, Surgut, and Yekaterinburg); Tajikistan (Khorog and Khujand); and United Arab Emirates (Sharjah).
