DUSHANBE, September 8, 2012, Asia-Plus – On Friday September 7, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe and Mr. Rajabali Taghoyev, Chairperson of Yovon district signed a grant contract for “The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment to the Central Hospital in Yovon district” for the total amount of US$112,769, press release issued by Japan’s embassy in Dushanbe said.
The Government of Japan in the framework of Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) will support improvement of the health sector in Yovon dostrict by a provision of medical equipment to the surgical department of Yovon Central Hospital.
The surgical department of Yovon central hospital was established in 1936, and annually receives approximately 3,000 patients from the whole area of Yovon district as well as from neighboring areas. However, the existing equipment produced in 1970’s have never been replaced. With these outdated equipment, the department has very limited environment to provide quality medical service. Due to the condition of the hospital, many patients, who seek better treatment, have to travel long distance even to Dushanbe.
Through upgrade of the medical equipment under the project, the hospital will be able to perform adequate and up-to-date medical services to the patients. New medical equipment such as gastro scope, a hot air sterilizer, an operating table and many others will be installed for more sophisticated diagnosis and treatment, and to enhance overall quality of the surgical department of Yovon Central Hospital.
Good medical service ensures improvement of people’s living standards as well as basic human rights for health in Yovon district.
The Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) provides support to projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. The GGP is provided to local governments, NGOs, and educational and medical institutions in developing countries. The GGP has extended more than US$ 21.4 million for 285 projects in Tajikistan since 1996.
