DUSHANBE, September 14, 2012, Asia-Plus — Sharif Said, Chairman of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), yesterday met here with a delegation of China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), led by Sopi Mutalip, Deputy Director General of the XUAR Cross-Border Trade Department.
The CCI press center reports the sides discussed organizational issues related to preparations for the upcoming exhibition of export goods from XUAR, which is expected to take place at the Kokhi Borbad State Complex in Dushanbe from September 18 to September 21.
Meetings of representatives of the business communities of the two countries and presentation of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Kashgar Prefecture of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region will take place on the sidelines of the upcoming fair, the source added.
In order to boost the economy in Kashgar region, the Chinese government classified the area a Special Economic Zone, the sixth one in China, in May 2010.
A ‘Special Economic Zone’ (SEZ) is a geographical region that has economic and other laws that are more free-market-oriented than a country”s typical or national laws. “Nationwide” laws may be suspended inside a special economic zone.
The main objective of the upcoming exhibition is in promoting attraction investments to boost Tajikistan’s economy, search for business partners and launch of joint ventures, the CI source noted.
Since 2004, similar exhibitions have taken place in Dushanbe, Kulob, Danghara, Gorno Badakhshan and other regions of Tajikistan.
