DUSHANBE, September 14, 2012, Asia-Plus — By president’s decrees five more police officials have been given the military rank of Major-General.
An official source at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) says the Interior Ministry personnel department chief Iskandar Rajabov, the Interior Ministry organizational-inspection department chief Ikrom Umarov, and Aziz Ghafurov, the representative of Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry to the CIS Council of Interior Ministers, have been given the military rank of Major-General.
Besides, Mustafo Rustamov, the head of the Interior Ministry’s office in Rasht Valley (eastern Tajikistan), and Muhammadshoh Iskandarov, the deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s office in Rasht Valley, have also been given the military rank of Major-General.
We will recall that Muhammadshoh Iskandarov, who is also known as Shoh Iskandarov, is the former United Tajik Opposition (UTO) field commander. He was given an Interior Ministry post in Rasht Valley in April 2011. He was appointed the deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s office in Rasht Valley in recognition of his role in defusing the crisis there in the autumn of 2010, when Islamic militants fought against government forces.
Born on October 30, 1968 in Khatlon province, Muhammadshoh Iskandarov graduated from the Faculty of Law at Tajik National University in 1990. He was the UTO field commander in Rasht during the 1992-1997 civil war, fighting against pro-government forces. After the signing of the 1997 peace agreement, he served in the border guard forces. Iskandarov graduated from Russia’s Academy of the Federal Border Service. He retired in 2007 as a colonel. He had worked since then in a local coal mine. On April 4, 2011, he was appointed deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s office in Rasht Valley.
