DUSHANBE, November 27, 2012, Asia-Plus — Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, who is currently in Bishkek to attend the European Union-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting, yesterday met there with his Kyrgyz counterpart Erlan Abdyldayev.
According to the Tajik MFA information department, the sides discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between their countries in sectors like energy, transportation and culture.
In the course of the talks, Zarifi and Abdyldayev also touched upon issues of demarcation and delimitation of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border.
It is to be noted that more than 430 kilometers of the disputed border run between Kyrgyz Batken and the Tajik district of Isfara. There are frequent disputes between residents of the two regions.
The ministers reportedly expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan and declared for development of a mechanism of regular interaction between the foreign ministries.
Zarifi invited his Kyrgyz counterpart to pay an official visit to Tajikistan.
