USAID, AKF to construct cross-border power transmission lines between Tajikistan and Afghanistan

DUSHANBE, December 3, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through its contractor Tetra Tech ES and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) have allocated grants with the purpose of electrification of the Cross Border Community of Viyod village in the Shugnan Vulusvoli of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (IRA).

Consequently within the project, Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy) has announced a tender to supply materials and equipment’s for construction of 10kV distribution line (with overall dimension of 20kV) and 0.4kV distribution line for electrification of the Cross Border Community of the Viyod village in the Afghan Shugnan Vulusvoli.

Pamir Energy has reportedly invited sealed bids from qualified bidders to submit their sealed bids for supplying of wooden poles, wires and line fittings, also 10/0.4 kV electric transformer substations.

“The tender was held on November 15 and after thorough analysis of the submitted bids we will choose the company for implementation of this project,” Akimbek Khudoyorbekov, Manager, Business and Development Division, PamirEnergy told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, construction of the cross-border power transmission lines will begin in March 2013 and they plan to complete the project in fifteen months.  

The United Sates has reportedly awarded US$785,000 grant for electrification of Shugnan Vulusvoli in Afghanistan.

The project is expected to promote economic and entrepreneurial development in these areas.
