DUSHANBE, December 3, 2012, Asia-Plus — To-date, Tajikistan has reportedly reached 95 percent of this year’s potato target that has been determined at 460,000 tons of potatoes.
Tajikistan has produced some 440,000 tons potatoes in January-November this year, which is nearly 140,000 tons more than in the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).
An official source at a MoA says average potato yields in the country have increased by 2 tons – from 19.5 tons/ha in 2011 to 21.5 tons/ha.
This year, more than 20,600 hectares of lands have been allocated to potato cultivation, which is 563 hectares more than last year.
