DUSHANBE, December 5, 2012, Asia-Plus — Indian company, Khoday Group, will conduct feasibility studies for construction of two medium-sized hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) in Tajikistan.
An official source at the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI) says a MoEI and Khuday Group of Companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Dushanbe on December 4. The document was inked by Gul Sherali, Minister of energy and Industries of Tajikistan and Sri Hari Khoday, CEO of Khoday Group.
The document reportedly provides for further cooperation between the Tajik ministry and the Indian company on implementation of energy projects in Tajikistan.
Issues related to conducting feasibility studies for construction of 150 MW hydropower plant on the Fondaryo River in the Ayni district (Sughd province) and 850 MW hydroelectric power plant on the Obi Khingob River in eastern Tajikistan were in the focus of the meeting, the source said.
We will recall that President Rahmon met Mr. Sri Hari Khoday in New Delhi on September 3 this year during his official visit to India.
Six memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were during the business meeting in New Delhi: Indian Central Asia Foundation (ICAF) and Academy of Science of the Republic of Tajikistan; Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Ministry of Energy and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan; Khoday Group of Companies and Ministry of Energy and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan; Chadha Power Company and Ministry of Energy and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan; Gemfields Company and Ministry of Energy and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan; and Khoday Group of Industries and Main Geology Directorate of the Republic of Tajikistan.
