DUSHANBE, January 4, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Officers from the State Committee for National Security (SCNS)’s office in Sughd province have seized some 122 kilograms of narcotics in two separate operations carried out in late December.

According to the SCNS press center, two residents of Mastchoh district were detained in an operation carried out in the Mastchoh district.  Some 2 kilograms of hashish and Makarov pistol were confiscated from them.

Another operation was carried out in the Kuhistoni Mastchoh district.  70 kilograms of hashish and 50 kilograms of raw opium were found hidden in a heavy truck Kamaz belonging to a local resident.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug traffickers and an investigation is under way.

In 2012, officers from the SCNS and border guards reportedly seized a total of more than 3,000 kilograms of narcotics, including some 200 kilograms of heroin.
