KHUJAND, January 10, 2013, Asia-Plus  — 137 new cases of HIV infection were registered in the northern Sughd province last year bringing the total number of the officially registered HIV sufferers in the area to 908, including 653 men, 255 women and eight minors, according to the Sughd health directorate.

Of the total number of newly registered HIV sufferers in Sughd, 61 are people aged 30 to 39, 33 people aged 40 to 49, 18 people aged 25 to 29 and eight minors aged under 14.   

The listed causes of newly registered HIV cases in Sughd were injecting drug use (38), contracting the infection through sex (63), contracting the infection through the mother-child transmission (4) and unknown (32).
