DUSHANBE, January 11, 2013, Asia-Plus — Barqi Tojik (the state-owned utility responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Tajikistan) reports that total electricity generation in 2012 was 14.4 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh)
Electricity production last year reportedly increased by 4 percent (524 million kWh) compared to 2011.
In 2012, Barqi Tojik purchased a total of some 2.4 billion kWh of electricity from the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant and the Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant.
Barqi Tojik now owes 320.1 million somoni to OJSC Sangtudinskaya GES-1, which operates the Sangtuda-1 plant, and 50 million somoni to the Sangtuda-2 power plant.
As of January 1, 2013, Barqi Tojik’s tax debts amounted to 251 million somoni.
Last year, Tajikistan exported 666.7 million kWh of electricity, which is 476.8 million kWh more than in 2011.
