DUSHANBE, January 12, 2013, Asia-Plus – On Friday January 11, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi met with Ms. Susan M. Elliott, U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the sides considered a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States.

Issues related to attraction of U.S. investments for development of Tajikistan’s economy, energy cooperation, Tajikistan’s admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and regional cooperation were among major topics of the meeting.

Both sides reportedly expressed interest in further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States.

Later on the same day, Zarifi received Mr. Alamgir B.K. Babar, Special Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, who is on a two-day visit to Tajikistan.

In the course of the talks, the two expressed satisfaction with expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan and discussed ways of further strengthening of mutually beneficial relations, the source said.  Zarifi and Babar also exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan and the necessity of joint fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.

On behalf of Pakistani Foreign Minister, Mr. Babar invited Hamrokhon Zarifi to pay an official visit to Islamabad.
