DUSHANBE, January 15, 2013, Asia-Plus — Unknown gunmen have killed one police officer and wounded another one at the traffic police checkpoint in the northern province of Sughd.

According to Tajik law enforcement authorities, the incident took place near the city of Konibodom on January 14.

The traffic police officers reportedly stopped a car for a routine document check.  The driver did not have a driving license and the traffic police officers made a record and decided to drive the car to the parking area, the source said.  The detainees offered an armed resistance and opened fire at the police.

As a result, one of the traffic police officers was killed on the spot while another one sustained serious wounds.

An investigation has been launched.
