DUSHANBE, January 15, 2013, Asia-Plus  — In 2012, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, amounted to 5.1376 billion U.S. dollars, which was 115.1 percent of the 2011 level or 674 million U.S. dollars more, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The trade balance was negative and amounted to some 2.418 billion U.S. dollars.

Exports of goods in 2012 amounted to more than 1.3 billion U.S. dollars, which was 8.1 percent more than in 2011.

Imports of goods into the country last year amounted to more than 3.7 billion U.S. dollars, which was 17.8 percent more than in 2011.  

Last year, Tajikistan had relations with 102 countries of the world, including ten CIS nations.

In 2012, Tajikistan’s food product imports reportedly rose 10 percent while Tajikistan’s transport facility imports last year increased 2.3 times.

Tajikistan’s precious metal exports reportedly rose 58 percent in 2012.  

Meanwhile, the country’s natural gas imports fell 20.1 percent in 2012.  Last year, Tajikistan reportedly imported 132.4 million cubic meters of natural gas from Uzbekistan for a total amount of 38.6 million U.S. dollars. 

In 2012, Tajikistan’s major trading partners were: Russia – more than one billion U.S. dollars; Kazakhstan – 799 million U.S. dollars; China – 669 million U.S. dollars; Turkey – 600 million U.S. dollars; Afghanistan – 232 million U.S. dollars, and Iran – 217 million U.S. dollars.
