DUSHANBE, January 16, 2013, Asia-Plus  — An operation carried out by officers from the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) in the Vahdat Township on January 15 led to the arrest of the 61-year-old resident of Gorno Badakhshan, Islombek Sultonbekov.

According to the SCNS press center, a package of narcotic drug that tested positive to hashish weighing 994 grams was confiscated from.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the alleged drug peddler and an investigation is under way.

Over the past two weeks, the SCNS officers have reportedly seized more than 150 kilograms of narcotics.

In 2012, the SCNS officers and border guards seized more than 3,000 kilograms of narcotics.  A totaled included 200 kilograms of heroin, 568 kilograms of raw opium, 1,400 kilograms of cannabis and more than 1,000 kilograms of hashish, the SCNS press center said.
