Lawsuit filed by the mayor’s office against Kabiri is pressure on politician, says CPT leader

Date:

DUSHANBE, February 1 2013, Asia-Plus  — “A lawsuit filed by the Dushanbe mayor’s office against deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament, leader of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) Muhiddin Kabiri, for his criticism of the environmental situation in the Tajik capital is contrary to the country’s Constitution, which prohibits censorship in our society,” the Majlisi Namoyandagon deputy Shodi Shabdolov, who is also leader of the Communist Party of Tajikistan (CPT), told Asia-Plus in an interview.

CPT leader is convinced the lawsuit filed by the capital authorities against Muhiddin Kabiri is a kind of pressure on politician and elected representative of the people.

“Even if he had made any mistakes in his speech on the environmental situation in Dushanbe at the Majlisi Namoyandagon meeting statement, the mayor’s office should have not filed a lawsuit against him in a court; for this, there is a parliamentary commission for ethics,” Shabdolov noted.

He added that everyone knew the tree cutting problem that had been raised by MP Kabiri at the Majlisi Namoyandagon session and it had been a mistake for the mayor’s office to file a lawsuit over that case.
