Tajik central bank head, WB official discuss banking supervision cooperation issues

DUSHANBE, September 24, 2013, Asia-Plus – On Tuesday September 24, Mr. Abdujabbor Shirinov, Chairman of the National bank of Tajikistan (NBT) met here with a delegation of the World Bank, led by Ms. Pamola Anos Casero, Sector Manager, Private and Financial Sectors Development Unit, Europe and Central Asia Region.

According to the NBT press center, the sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and the World Bank.

They, in particular, discussed issues related to cooperation between specialists of the two banks in banking supervision and improvement of Tajik central bank’s payment system, the NBT press center said.

Casero and Shirinov reportedly spoke for implementation of a project aimed at developing insurance market in the country.

The National Bank of Tajikistan is the central bank of Tajikistan.  The Bank is engaged in developing policies to promote financial inclusion and is a member of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion.

The active portfolio of the World Bank in Tajikistan currently consists of 12 projects with a net commitment of US$205.9 million.  The largest share of the portfolio is in agriculture and rural development (40 percent), followed by water and sanitation (15 percent), human development (14 percent), energy (13 percent), the public sector (12 percent), and the private sector (6 percent).
