DUSHANBE, September 27, 2013, Asia-Plus – Another small hydroelectric power plant (HPP) has been introduced into operation in Rasht district (eastern Tajikistan).
According to the Ministry of Energy and Industry (MoEI), an official ceremony of introducing the plant into operation took place on September 26 in the presence of the Minister of Energy and Industry, Gul Sherali.
Construction of the plant began in 2011 and a total cost of the project is some 8 million somoni. The plant is reportedly able to generate 586 kWh of electricity per year. The equipment for this plant has been purchased in China.
Construction of fourteen other small HPPS is under way and seven of them are expected to be introduced into operation before the end of this year.
There are 305 small HPPs with a total capacity of more than 25,000 kW in Tajikistan, but only 113 of them are now operating.
