DUSHANBE, November 20, 2013, Asia-Plus — The First Deputy Minister of Defense, Ramil Nadyrov, will represent Tajikistan at a session of the CIS Council of Minister of Defense that will take place in Moscow on November 21, Faridoun Mahmadaliyev, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus today morning.
We will recall that Sherali Khairulloyev was relieved of his post of Minister of Defense today.
The 65th meeting of the CIS Defense Ministers Council is expected to discuss more than 20 issues related to military cooperation within the CIS area.
The meeting participants plan to discuss the activity of the Council’s working bodies in 2013, cooperation in exchange of geospatial information, monitoring the application of national identification means in the armed forces, the order of collecting and sharing information on aviation technology defects, and cooperation in issues related to modernization and maintenance of engineer equipment, supplies of spare parts.
The meeting will also focus on the problems related to the development of the CIS united radiation, chemical, biological monitoring and evaluation system, hydrometeorology support of joint events of combat training, cooperation between CIS defense ministers, security bodies and special services in training and enhancement of qualifications of specialists in counterterrorist activities.
The CIS defense ministers will also discuss the organization of the Olympiad among military educational institutions of the CIS Defense Ministries, tournaments as part of the 11th Military Sports Games in 2014 and the organization of the CIS Training Center for International Security.
The participants of the meeting will outline joint events of the CIS united air defense system in 2014 and adopt a number of financial, personnel and procedural matters.
Established under the CIS Charter, the Council of Ministers of Defense is vested with the task of coordinating military cooperation of the CIS member states. To this end, the Council develops conceptual approaches to the questions of military and defense policy of the CIS member states; develops proposals aimed to prevent armed conflicts on the territory of the member states or with their participation; gives expert opinions on draft treaties and agreements related to the questions of defense and military developments; issues related suggestions and proposals to the attention of the CIS Council of the Heads of State. Also important is the Council”s work on approximation of the legal acts in the area of defense and military development.
An important manifestation of integration processes in the area of military and defense collaboration of the CIS member states is the creation, in 1995, of the joint CIS Air Defense System.
