DUSHANBE, November 21, 2013, Asia-Plus – Deputy head of Tajik Railways, Vladimir Sobkalov, has represented Tajikistan at the 59th session of the CIS Railway Transport Council in Chisinau, Moldova.

The meeting participants included members of Council: top managers of state railway companies of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and also associated members – the heads of Bulgarian, Georgian, Latvian and Finnish railways.

Representatives of state railway companies of Iranian, Lithuania, Estonia, and the CIS Executive Committee who have the status of observers at the Council also attended a two-day meeting that concluded on November 20.

The session reportedly discussed a broad range of issues related to the organization of international transportation of passengers and freight, joint utilization of rail cars and shipping containers, mutual payments for transportation and services, and the development of common regulatory documents.

The next 60th session of the CIS Railway Transport Council will take place in spring 2014 in Kazakhstan, a source at Tajik Railways said.

The CIS Railway Transport Council was established in 1992 with a view to coordinating the railways operation at the interstate level and working out common principles of operation.  The Council helped preserve the technological unity of the railway network and carry out coordinated development of infrastructure and tariff railway policy in the CIS.
