DUSHANBE, January 10, Asia-Plus — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has reportedly updated its assistance pipeline for Tajikistan for 2014-2016, including investment and technical assistance projects.
According to the ADB Tajikistan Resident Mission (TJRM), ADB’s Country Director for Tajikistan C.C. Yu will present the updated pipeline at a press briefing in Dushanbe on January 16.
We will recall that the process of preparation of the program of cooperation of Tajikistan and the ADB in 2014-2016 was discussed here on November 27 at a meeting of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon with Mr. Klaus Gerhaeusser, Director-General of Central and West Asia Department of the Asian Development Bank.
Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998, and in 2003 ADB opened its resident mission in Dushanbe. Currently, ADB is the country’s largest multilateral development partner, with a total approved portfolio of over $1.08 billion as of the end of September 2013, of which $709 million is in grants.
ADB”s country partnership strategy supports Tajikistan in tackling its most critical development constraints focusing on inclusive growth. ADB”s key strength has been its continued focus on transport and energy sectors within a regional cooperation context.
ADB”s program in Tajikistan will continue supporting regional cooperation and the energy and transport sectors, while providing policy support for improving the investment climate.
