DUSHANBE, January 17, 2014, Asia-Plus — MP Akramsho Felaliyev has been elected to head the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s fiction in Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon).

He replaced Ms. Makhfirat Khidirova, who resigned in connection with her appointment as chairperson of the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon said.

Akramsho Felaliyev came to the parliament from the party list.

Born on June 8, 1958, Akramsho Felaliyev received his early education in the Roshtqala district, Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) before graduating from the Faculty of Biology at Tajik National University in 1980.  He has scientific degrees of Candidate of Science in Biology and Doctor of Science in Agriculture.

Akramsho Felaliyev is married with five children.

Founded in 1993, the People’s Democratic Party is the largest political party in Tajikistan, boasting more than 230,000 registered members. President Emomali Rahmon is chairman of the party. The PDP now controls more than 60 percent of the seats in parliament.
