Corruption cost Tajikistan at 83.4 mln somoni in 2013

DUSHANBE, January 17, 2014, Asia-Plus – The press center of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption reports that according to findings by the anticorruption agency, corruption cost Tajikistan at 83.4 million somoni in 2013.

Inspections conducted by the anticorruption agency last year revealed 83.4 million somoni worth of damage, the anticorruption agency press center said, noting that 26.9 of the damage was reimbursed.

In all, 1,325 economic and corruption-related crimes were registered in Tajikistan last year and more than 160 of those crimes were committed by officers of the country’s power-wielding structures.

In 2013, 44 officers from the Interior Ministry reportedly committed 57 corruption-relate crimes, 22 servicemen for the Ministry of Defense – 25, 17 employees of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) – 19, 24 tax officers – 42, six customs officers – 9, 6 employees of the judicial system – 7, two officers from the anticorruption agency – 6, 2 officers from the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) – 6, and 2 officers from the Drug Control Agency – 6.
