Tajik official denies information about national TV campaign against IRP

Date:

DUSHANBE, January 20, 2014, Asia-Plus – Tajik national TV channels have never carried out campaign against any political party, including the Islamic Revival Party (IRP), Saidali Siddiqov, the first deputy head of the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting, told journalists in Dushanbe on January 20.

According to him, they were not aiming at blackening the IRP when broadcasting reports linking violence and murders committed by some people with the IRP ahead of 2013 presidential election in Tajikistan.

“We did not pursue such an objective and nobody ordered us to launch the campaign against the IRP,” Siddiqov added.

We will recall that the Islamic Revival Party filed the defamation lawsuit against the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting on September 19, 2013.

In its lawsuit, the IRP notes that the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting spread anti-IRP propaganda through the national TV and radio stations as the pre-election campaign started in the country.  The IRP asked the defendant to officially apologize and stop the information campaign discrediting the Islamic Revival Party.
