DUSHANBE, January 24, 2014, Asia-Plus — Tethys Petroleum Limited (Tethys), a company focused on oil and gas exploration and production activities in Central Asia, reportedly intends to expand its operations to the northern Sughd province.
Issues related to operations of Tethys in northern Tajikistan were discussed yesterday in Khujand at a meeting of Dr. David Robson, Executive Chairman and President of Tethys, with acting Governor of Sughd Province Abdurahmon Qodiri.
According to the Sughd regional administration, the sides discussed opportunities of participation of Tethys in development of oil and gas sector in Sughd.
Sughd governor reportedly noted that northern Tajikistan was rich in oil and natural gas. He said they needed reliable partners for exploration and development of the oil and gas deposits in the province.
For his part, Dr. Robson noted said that his company was ready to participate in rehabilitation of active oil and gas fields and exploration of new oil and gas deposits in Sughd province.
In Tajikistan, Tethys was one of the first oil and gas companies to work in the country. Tethys also negotiated the First Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for the large Bokhtar area in the southwest region of the country. Singed in 2008, the 25-year Bokhtar PSC reportedly covers a total area of approximately 35,000 square kilometers.
Tethys owns 85% of Seven Stars Energy Corporation, which in turn owns 100% of Tethys Services Tajikistan, the Operating Company under the PSC, and Kulob Petroleum Limited, the Contractor under the PSC, and is currently involved in an extensive program of oil and gas field re-development, exploration drilling, and seismic acquisition/interpretation.
