DUSHANBE, February 10, 2014, Asia-Plus — The board (Shuro) of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament discussed amendments proposed to the constitutional court law at a February 10 meeting, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov.
Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the board also discussed the issue of ratification of the CIS agreement on combating money laundering and terrorist financing treaty on countering money laundering that was signed in Dushanbe on October 5, 2007.
The board members also discussed amendments proposed to the country’s law on state regulation of agricultural lands, Sultonov said, noting that the bills were sent for consideration to the relevant committees and commissions of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, Sultonov said.
We will recall that that the draft Constitutional law “On the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Tajikistan” was discussed at a meeting in Dushanbe on May 14, 2013.
A constitutional court is a high court that deals primarily with constitutional law. Its main authority is to rule on whether or not laws that are challenged are in fact unconstitutional, i.e. whether or not they conflict with constitutionally established rights and freedoms.
