DUSHANBE, February 16, 2014, Asia-Plus – In 2013, all types of transportation shipped more than 72 million tons of cargo in Tajikistan, which was 6.3 percent more than in 2012, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).

The volume of cargo shipped by all-purpose transportation in the country’s overall cargo turnover was more than 18 million tons last year, which was 1.3 percent more than in 2012.

The portion of cargo shipments by automotive transportation rose 10.6 percent in a year to December 31, 2013, reaching 1.9 million tons.

The share of domestic carriers in international shipping last year was 48.5 percent, the source said.

Meanwhile, 561 million people were carried by all types of passenger transportation last year.  Of the overall volume of passenger traffic 1.1 million people traveled by air and nearly 510,000 people by rail.
