DUSHANBE, February 17, 2014, Asia-Plus — Shukurjon Zuhurov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), yesterday left for Tehran, Iran to attend the 9th Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Parliamentary Union that will kick off in the Iranian capital on February 18.
According to Iranian media sources, Iranian officials have described the conference that will run through February 19 as important regarding the current situation in the Muslim World as well as global crises and expansion of terrorism in the region.
The Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States is composed of the parliaments of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member nations. It was established in Iran on June 17, 1999, with its head office situated in Tehran. The OIC Parliamentary UNION now has 53 members.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an international organization consisting of 57 member states. The organization attempts to be the collective voice of the Muslim world (Ummah) and attempts to safeguard the interests and ensure the progress and well-being of Muslims. The OIC has a permanent delegation to the United Nations, and is the largest international organization outside of the United Nations.
