DUSHANBE, February 17, 2014, Asia-Plus – An expert group for consideration of a draft resolution on providing assistance to Tajikistan to strengthen border security on the Tajik-Afghan stretch of the CIS external border met at the CIS Executive Committee (EC) in Minsk, Belarus on February 13.
According to the CIS EC press center, the meeting participants included representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan as well as the CIS Council of Border Troops Commanders.
The meeting participants reportedly approved the draft resolution and offered the Tajik side to send the request for material and other resources, necessary for strengthening of the Tajik-Afghan border, for consideration of the CIS EC until March 15, 2014.
We will recall that the last Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) summit that took place in Sochi, Russia on September 23, 2013 agreed to draw up a joint plan to protect Tajikistan”s border with Afghanistan.
