DUSHANBE, February 18, 2014, Asia-Plus – The first stage of restructuring of Barqi Tojik (state-controlled utility responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Tajikistan) is reportedly nearing completion.

An official source at Barqi Tojik says a number of departments were established last year and “the Supervisory Board under the Government of Tajikistan for restructuring of Barqi Tojik last July endorsed new administrative structures of the county’s power holding.”

According to him, the plan of restructuring of Barqi Tojik envisages splitting the power holding into three entities: generation; transmission; and distribution.

We will recall that the government endorsed the plan of individual restructuring of Barqi Tojik in August 2011 in order to improve the company’s financial performance and attract private investment.

Barqi Tojik will be restructured in three phases: commercialization (2011-2013); competition (2014-2015); and privatization (2016-2018).

A contract for implementation of this plan was awarded to Corporate Solutions.
