DUSHANBE, March 17, 2014, Asia-Plus – Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov met with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on March 15, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

The two reportedly discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran.

Aslov and Zarif, in particular, discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries in different fields and exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest, the Tajik MFA information department noted.  

Iran’s news agency IRAN reports that Zarif referred to cultural commonalities between the two countries and called for development of bilateral relations in political, economic, and cultural fields.  Zarif also said Iran is ready to cooperate with Tajikistan in security affairs, fighting against terrorism and radicalism as common threats.

Tajik Foreign Minister Aslov conveyed warm greetings of Tajikistan President and people and congratulated on Iran’s success in reaching primary agreements with Group 5+1 and stressed on Iran’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, IRNA reported.

While in Tehran, Tajik Foreign minister Sirojiddin Aslov also met with Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian, the Tajik MFA information department reports.

The two reportedly discussed issues related to completion of the Istiqlol Tunnel and the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Tajikistan.
