DUSHANBE, June 18, 2014, Asia-Plus – Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov heading the government delegation is participating in the 41st Session of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states that is being held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from June 18-19.
According to the Tajik MFA information department, Aslov will deliver a speech at the OIC’s session on Tajikistan’s position on a number of regional and international issues being of interest to the OIC member nations.
Tajik foreign minister is also expected to hold a number of bilateral meetings in Jeddah.
According to information posted on OIC’s website, the ministerial conference that is held under the theme “Exploring Areas of Islamic Cooperation” will witness the transfer of the Council’s chairmanship from the Republic of Guinea to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The OIC foreign ministers would receive a detailed report to be presented by the OIC Secretary General, Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani, in which he would review the situation in the Muslim world and the most salient developments in the Middle East. The Secretary General is expected to touch on the OIC’s endeavors with regard to the ongoing crises in Central Africa, Myanmar, Nigeria and Mali.
The situation in Iraq and Syria also features in the agenda of the Conference in view of the latest developments and their implications for security and stability in the region. Also included in the agenda are the situations in Libya in view of recent and ongoing developments and the conditions of Muslim minorities in Myanmar and The Philippines.
The issues of terrorism, extremism and sectarian differences threatening security and stability in the region feature prominently on the Council’s agenda.
