DUSHANBE, June 20, 2014, Asia-Plus – A military court in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province has sentenced a sergeant from military unit 2850 of the Main Border Guard Directorate at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) to nine years in jail for abusing his position that caused death of a soldier by negligence.

Farrukh Davlatov was found guilty of hazing, causing death of soldier Akmal Davlatov on April 17, 2014 and was sentenced to nine years in prison on June 19.  Davlatov will serve his term in a high-security penal colony.

Human rights organizations in Tajikistan have criticized the government for not doing enough to stop bullying in the military.
