DUSHANBE, September 8, 2014, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Iran Nematullo Emomzoda has stressed expansion of trade ties between Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iran’s news agency IRNA reports that speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Tajik diplomat voiced hope on September 6 that President Hassan Rouhani’s upcoming visit to Tajikistan opens up a new chapter in Dushanbe-Tehran ties.
Emomzoda reportedly stressed the promotion of economic ties between the two states adding that the visit is expected to result in the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation agreements.
President Rouhani will inaugurate a railroad project and a hydroelectric power plant constructed by Iranian investors in Tajikistan during the visit, Tajik ambassador said.
He added that terrorism and extremism are threats against the world security and Tajikistan will do its best to fight these phenomena.
He also called the war against terrorism and extremism one of the subjects to be raised in the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
According to IRNA, President Rouhani is scheduled to visit Tajikistan in September to attend the SCO summit which will take place in Dushanbe on September 12 and 13.
Founded by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on June 15, 2001, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an intergovernmental organization. Except for Uzbekistan, the other countries had been members of the Shanghai Five; after the inclusion of Uzbekistan in 2001, the members renamed the organization.
The Organization currently has six full members — China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Mongolia, Iran, Pakistan and India are four observer states, and SCO’s dialogue partners include Belarus, Sri Lanka and Turkey.
