DUSHANBE, September 10, 2014, Asia-Plus – The President of the Republic of Bashkortostan (Russia), Rustem Khamitov, arrived in Dushanbe on September 10.
Khamitov was reportedly met at the Dushanbe airport by Shavkat Bobozoda, the Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan.
Mr. Khamitov arrived in Dushanbe to attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Ufa, the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan, will host the SCO summit in 2015.
The Republic of Bashkortostan, also known as Bashkiria, is a federal subject of Russia (a republic). It is located between the Volga River and the Ural Mountains. Its capital is the city of Ufa. Bashkortostan is one of the most developed regions of the Russian Federation in terms of its gross regional output, volume of industrial production, agricultural production, and investment in fixed assets. The economy of Bashkortostan, being one of the largest industrial centers of Russia, is very diverse. Bashkortostan has a large agricultural sector. But the republic”s most important industry is chemical processing; Bashkortostan produces more oil than any other region of Russia, about 26 million tons annually, and provides 17% of the country”s gasoline and 15% of its diesel fuel. Other important products manufactured in Bashkortostan include alcohols, pesticides and plastics.
