DUSHANBE, September 11, Asia-Plus — Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Dushanbe to participate in a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

According to official sources, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are due to meet with Mongolian leader Tsakhia Elbegdorj today evening to discuss areas of trilateral cooperation, including the expansion of trans-border railway corridors and the possibility of creating a regional electricity grid.

Today, Putin is also expected to hold bilateral meeting with Uzbek President Islam Karimov.

After an official dinner, bilateral meeting of Putin with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will take place at 10:30 pm.

On September 12, Putin will meet separately with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the SCO summit to discuss bilateral ties.

According to the Tajik MFA, more than 230 interstate and government-to-government agreements regulating political, economic, military-and-technical, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation have been signed between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation since 1992.   

Russia will take over the SCO presidency from Tajikistan at the end of the summit and will host the next summit in the city of Ufa next July.
