DUSHANBE, October 8, 2014, Asia-Plus – Russian military will help Tajik counterparts in construction and equipment of the military training ground Armageddon in the Tajik southern Khatlon province, where the two countries will train their subdivisions, a spokesman for Russia”s Central Military District, Yaroslav Roshchupkin, was quoted by Itar Tass as saying.

This issue was reportedly discussed in Dushanbe at a meeting of Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Mirzo with Russia”s Central Military District Commander Vladimir Zarudnitsky.

They sides reportedly also discussed issues related to joint training of Tajik armed forces and Russian forces based in Tajikistan as well as training of associate specialists for the Tajik national army.

The Russian military based deployed in Tajikistan is Russia”s largest non-naval military facility outside the country.  It was officially opened in Tajikistan in 2004 under a previous agreement, which was signed in 1993, and hosts Russia’s largest military contingent deployed abroad.

A total of some 6,000 Russian troops are stationed at three military facilities collectively known as the 201st military base – in Dushanbe, Qurghon Teppa, some 100 kilometers from Dushanbe, and Kulob, about 200 kilometers southwest of Dushanbe.
