DUSHANBE, October 9, 2014, Asia-Plus – Tajik law enforcement authorities say no blast struck in a beauty salon yesterday and a fire in the salon was caused by an act of self-immolation.
A statement posted on the Interior Ministry’s website yesterday evening notes that the preliminary investigation has established that the fire was caused by the act of self-immolation committed by the salon owner Oleg Tokov.
It was found that Oleg Tokov owes nearly 180,000 U.S. dollars to a number of people and 300,000 U.S. dollars to Spitamenbonk and according to his wife, creditors have demanded that he return their money, the statement says.
Tokov’s wife reportedly noted that Oleg had been depressed lately and attempted suicide in late September.
According to specialists’ report, there was no blast in the salon; police officers were just forced to break windows in order to enter the premises, the statement notes.
We will recall that one person was killed and at least three others were wounded on October 8 as a fire broke out in a beauty salon in Dushanbe’s neighborhood # 46.
Witnesses said yesterday that a blast struck in the beauty salon, placed in the shopping center “Sadat,” at around 10:35 am. According to them, the explosion occurred in an office of the salon owner Oleg Tokov. The fire destroyed the salon owner’s office.
Tajik law enforcement authorities have portrayed the incident as accidental. They said yesterday that the fire might have been caused by chemicals that were kept in Tokov’s office.
