DUSHANBE, October 16, 2014, Asia-Plus – The third session of the Tajik-Azeri intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation took place in Dushanbe on October 15.
An official source at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan (MEDT) says that co-chaired by Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sharif Rahimzoda and Azeri Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev, the session discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan.
A special attention was reportedly paid to implementation of joint projects, development of two-way trade between the two countries, promotion of investments, intensification of activities of free economic zones, and establishment of joint ventures and their representative offices in both countries.
The session ended with signing of an intergovernmental protocol, the source said.
According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, trade between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan in January-June 2014 has valued at more than 11 million U.S. dollars. This consisted of Tajikistan’s imports from Azerbaijan only. Tajikistan imports mainly oil products from Azerbaijan.
