DUSHANBE, October 22, 2014, Asia-Plus — Chairman of Tajikistan’s upper house (Majlisi Milli) of parliament, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, yesterday met in Moscow with representatives of Tajik Diasporas in the Russian Federation.

According to Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker, heads of Tajik representative missions in Russia, Tajik students studying in Russia, governors of Sughd province and the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), Deputy Prime Minister Murodali Alimardon, and heads of a number of Tajik ministries and agencies also attended the meeting.

Ubaidulloyev reportedly ordered representatives of the government to take adequate measures to solve problems facing Tajik labor migrants in the Russian Federation.

“Ubaidulloyev also, on behalf of the country’s leadership, expressed gratitude to Tajik labor migrants for their contribution to development of the country and called on them to observe rules of stay in Russia and respect religion, traditions, history and language of the country of destination,” Saidov said.

The Majlisi Milli speaker reportedly also called on Tajik labor migrants not to succumb to extremist calls aimed at undermining peace and stability in their homeland.

Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev heading Tajik parliamentary delegation is currently in Moscow to participate in the 4th inter-parliamentary forum entitled “Tajikistan-Russia: Potential of Cooperation between the Countries’ Regions.”

While in Moscow, Ubaidulloyev will hold a number of bilateral talks with Russian politicians, including his Russian counterpart Valentina Matviyenko, the State Dushanbe (Russia’s lower chamber of parliament) Sergey Naryshkin, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Igor Shuvalov, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin and Moscow Oblast Governor Andrei Voroboyov.
