DUSHANBE, November 4, 2014, Asia-Plus — Chairman of Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev has signed a decree on convocation of the 19th session of Majlisi Milli in Dushanbe on November 20.
Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker, says the session will consider the laws requiring amendments to the country’s laws on precious metals and precious stones, non-government pension funds, pawn shops, chattel mortgage, etc.
Majlisi Milli (National Assembly), the upper chamber of Tajik parliament with 33 members, 25 elected for a five-year term by members of local legislatures (Majlis) and 8 appointed by the president. The current Chairman of Majlisi Milli is Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev from April 17, 2000.

The Majlisi Milli’s powers include formation and abolition, and change of administrative-territorial units; the election and recall of the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Supreme Economic Court upon the recommendation of the President; deciding questions of the repeal of inviolability of the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Supreme Economic Court; giving consent to the appointment and relieving of the Procurator General and his deputies; and effectuating other powers to be determined by the Constitution and by laws.
