DUSHANBE, December 10, 2014, Asia-Plus – Russian Railways’ decision to suspend services to Tajikistan will not affect rail traffic between our countries, because Russian trains have never run to Tajikistan, Karimjon Muminov, an official with Tajik Railways (Tajik state railway company), told Asia-Plus commenting on Russia’s decision to suspend some trains’ operations.

According to him, only Tajik trains have run between Tajikistan and Russia and they will continue to operate.

At present Tajik Railways offers two routes to the Russian Federation — Dushanbe-Moscow (triple-weekly service) and Khujand-Moscow (twice-weekly service).

We will recall that Russia”s state railway company, Russian Railways, says it will stop almost all service to Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan for a year starting December 14.

In a statement on its website on December 9, Russian Railways said its subsidiary, Federal Passenger, is suspending the service because it is not profitable.

Meanwhile, Russian Railways will continue to operate trains to Belarus, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Abkhazia.
